CRS GEOTUBE® PROJECTS

Geotube®

Northern Western Australia

The project was initially hampered by a series of cyclones which ensured that the earthworks involved in the creation of bunds and pump sumps was a laborious and lengthy process. Once the weather settled and the infrastructure was finished, pumping of the first of 16 Geotube® dewatering containers began.

Using an unique continuous loop style unmanned dredge, pumping of the 5% solids sewage sludge was undertaken for 12 hours / day over the ensuing 8 weeks. Polymer, dosed at ~ 100ppm, was added to the sludge in-line, prior to containment and dewatering in the Geotube®. The solids concentration of the sludge was increased from 5% to 25% over the initial 60-day period.

The Geotube® dewatering containers proved to be a robust, economical solution to the difficulties normally experienced when dewatering large pond volumes of sludge in remote locations. Manufactured from high-strength purpose designed geotextile incorporating a patented circumferential stitch, Geotube® dewatering containers can be used for containment and dewatering of a range of fine-grained sediments and sludges.
