About this Project

CRS Water were awarded the contract build a packaged Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) for South 32’s GEMCO manganese mining operation on Groote Eylandt in the Gulf of Carpentaria. The treatment plant produces effluent that is Class C standard according to Northern Territory guidelines.

The plant utilises screen filtration, activated sludge treatment, solid separation through clarification and disinfection with chlorine dosing. The CRS packaged STP will feature all process equipment pre-installed onto process skids for delivery to site with the plant designed to treat a normal 350 kL/day load but has the capacity to double this flowrate to treat a maximum 700 kL/day of sewage.

It is a fully automatic system that incorporates VSD controlled feed pump; flow, pressure and water analysis transmitters; and automated CIP system. The plant is HFE designed for ease of accessibility, operation and maintenance.
