WestConnex New M5 WTP

Water Treatment

February 2017

About this Project

CRS was contracted to provide groundwater treatment plants for the WestConnex New M5 tunnelling projects at the Arncliffe, Bexley and St Peters sites. These plants were designed and fabricated to treat feed water from a range of sources including groundwater infiltration, dust suppression, grout washing, machinery cooling and general tunnelling uses.

Each system includes hydrocyclone solid separation as well as chemical dosing for pH correction, coagulation and flocculation. Lamella plate clarifiers are utilised to provide optimised solids settling with minimal footprint.

Continuously washed upflow filters increase plant uptime and reduce maintenance by decreasing backwashing requirements.

The plants are fully automated with a local PLC, and process alarms sent to the project control system indicating a need for maintenance. CRS was also involved with installation, commissioning, operator training onsite and remote monitoring of process conditions.
